Briana Rasmussen Rogers studied at Portland State University and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in German and History. While studying for her degrees, she decided to take it a step further and lived in Tubingen, Germany for a year. After returning to Oregon and graduating, she began winemaking in 2006 with her first (and favorite) varietal, Marechal Foch.
As a kid, Briana grew up in Portland and Stayton, OR. Her mother, who is a scientist, inspired her to really dive in and learn the science behind things. Winemaking was more of what Briana calls “wine-science” and it is largely part of why she loves what she does. Her father, who is a teacher, influenced her desire to specialize in wine education.
Briana’s husband, Dave Rogers, is definitely her support system in running the winery. As the Co-Owner and the other Winemaker, saying that he is her other half is an understatement! They met over 10 years ago through making wine for Purple Cow Vineyards and got married in July of this year.
Why did you select the business you are in? It started as a hobby in 2006, and within 5 years the winery transformed into a serious operation that we were happy to do full time. The winemaking industry is predominately male and I am happy to be one of the few women in the Willamette Valley to be a Winemaker and winery Co-Owner. Wine is definitely a labor of love; I love the work that goes into growing grapes, the science that goes into winemaking and, of course, enjoying the fruits of our labor.
What do you like most about what you do? Over the years I have found that wine has a way of bringing people together- and in our case, spouses! Wine is generally found on the dinner table for birthdays, celebrations, and holidays and I have a sense of pride knowing that I get to create something that is enjoyed by many.
Why did you join WOW and what is the most rewarding or valuable aspect of being a WOW member? WOW is a great organization to promote strong women in our local area. Making connections with those women is fantastic opportunity to network with other business-minded ladies from multiple industries.
Who could be an ideal potential client for you? Ideal customers for Purple Cow Vineyards are people who enjoy good company and great wine. We welcome wine connoisseurs and people who have never tasted wine before!
What do you like to do for fun? I enjoy wine tasting, gardening and reading.
What are five things you cannot live without?
Where is your favorite place to vacation? The Oregon Coast in winter is my favorite place to go on vacation… coffee, a good book, and a fire? Yes please!
